(ABC News)A spokesperson for Denpasar police said investigators were conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of death and examining any link to the alleged assault."In addition to witness statements, investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and video recordings of the incident, which form a vital part of the investigative process," they said."Based on witness statements and initial findings, four Australian nationals have been identified in connection with the incident."Police said all four men left Indonesia after the assault.One Tribe One Life Lounge and Cafe is located in Kuta, an area popular with tourists. (ABC News: Ambros Boli Berani)In an interview with the ABC, Denpasar police spokesperson I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said Indonesian police would coordinate with Australian Federal Police.In an online post, Mr Dougan's family alleged he was "brutally assaulted"."They beat and kicked him multiple times, putting him in a life-threatening condition," the family said, adding that he had to undergo three major surgeries.Defending woman at bar: PoliceDenpasar police said they had interviewed a range of witnesses, including Mr Dougan's family, venue security staff and employees.They allege the incident began when "one of the men struck a woman.""The victim intervened to reprimand the man, which was received poorly, leading all four men to assault the victim," the statement said.Denpasar Police say they are investigating four Australians in connection with the death of Paul Dougan. (ABC News)"We will fully establish the sequence of events, including the specific role played by each party and the cause of the victim's death," Denpasar Police Chief, Police Grand Commissioner Leonardo David Simatupang said."Legal proceedings will be conducted professionally and strictly in accordance with statutory regulations."Mr Dougan, who is also a British national, went back to his hotel after the incident but was taken to hospital several days later.His son Liam paid tribute to his father in a social media post, saying he was "shattered, heartbroken and confused"."I will love and remember you for the rest of my life, and I will continue to make you proud," he said.On Friday, the One Tribe One Life Lounge and Cafe was closed, with police tape blocking the entrance.
