Image: Jussi Nukari / LehtikuvaYle News8:56Belarus will close its embassy in Finland, Helsingin Sanomat reported on Friday morning.The closure will take effect from 1 September, according to HS.The decision to close the embassy in Finland was published on Belarus's registry of state decisions, and it was signed by Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin.Belarusian citizens in Finland or those requiring consular services have been advised to contact either the country's embassy in Stockholm or the Daugavpils consulate in Latvia.HS also cited a report by Belarusian news outlet Pozirk, which noted that Belarus has been "optimising" its embassy network for some time as it also establishes new consulates inside Russia.The last Belarusian ambassador to Finland was Aleksei Samosuev, who served in the position from 2018 to 2024. Belarus did not appoint a new ambassador to Finland after Samosuev left the post.Belarus established its embassy in Finland in 2011. Finland does not have an embassy in Belarus, but instead operates a liaison office of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Minsk, the Belarusian capital.
