The consumer electronics market in Kerala is witnessing healthy demand in premium segments ahead of the Onam festive season, with larger-screen televisions and audio products emerging as key growth drivers, according to Satish Padmanabhan, Director of Sales, Sony India. The recently concluded FIFA football season provided a significant boost to the television segment, particularly larger screen sizes. Sony’s 55-inch and above television business grew by around 50 per cent during the season, while its overall TV business recorded approximately 20 per cent growth, he said. The company expects the positive momentum to continue through the Onam season, supported by festive offers, financing schemes and growing consumer preference for premium home entertainment products, he said.“Consumers are increasingly looking for a more immersive home entertainment experience. Whether it is watching movies, sports or other premium content, the preference is clearly shifting towards larger screens,” Padmanabhan said.Despite challenges such as price pressures, product availability and global uncertainties, he said consumer buying sentiment in Kerala has remained encouraging. The growing interest in larger screens reflects consumers’ willingness to invest in a more cinematic viewing experience at home, he added.Sony India has lined up several new products for the festive season across television, audio and digital imaging. The digital imaging portfolio includes new products in the Alpha and ZV camera series, along with lenses and accessories. To tap the Onam demand, Sony India is offering benefits across its television, audio and camera portfolios. On select BRAVIA televisions, consumers can avail themselves of up to ₹25,000 in instant cash-back, a three-year warranty and one EMI-free offer. The company expects the premiumisation trend in Kerala’s consumer electronics market to continue beyond Onam, driven by demand for larger televisions, improved picture quality and connected home entertainment. Kerala remains an important market for its television, audio, digital imaging and PlayStation gaming businesses, he said and expressed optimism about the market through the remainder of 2026.Published on August 21, 2026
