Key Facts

The target. Mining and economy minister Daniel Mas says Chile should return to about six million tonnes of copper a year.

Where it is now. Output has been stuck between 5 and 5.5 million tonnes; Chile produced 5,415,200 tonnes in 2025, down 1.65% on 2024.

The direction of travel. Cochilco expects 5.27 million tonnes in 2026 — a fall of 2.6%.
