Athens is reviewing its defence posture in the Eastern Mediterranean amid reports Iran could target US military installations in Europe if the conflict escalates further.

The Financial Times, citing two Iranian sources, reported that Tehran has considered strikes against American military targets in southeastern Europe, with Cyprus also identified as a potential target for retaliation should US military operations resume.

The reports have prompted Greece’s Ministry of National Defence and military leadership to assess the protection of Cyprus, Souda Bay and other allied infrastructure in the region.

According to ERT, one contingency being examined involves moving a Greek Patriot missile battery from Karpathos to Crete to strengthen the air defence of Souda Bay. No decision has been made.

Four Greek F-16 fighter jets also remain stationed at Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Cyprus, while the frigate Nikiforos Fokas, equipped with the Centaur anti-drone system, remains in Cypriot waters.
