Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Newly appointed U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Juan Pablo Segura on Thursday demanded the release of Cuban rapper Maykel "Osorbo" Castillo Pérez, who turned 43 while serving a nine-year prison sentence in Cuba.
"Today, Maykel 'Osorbo' Castillo Pérez should be celebrating his birthday with his family, not unjustly imprisoned in a Cuban prison," Segura wrote on his office's official X account.

"We stand with Maykel and demand the release of all political prisoners who have bravely confronted the corruption and injustice of the Cuban communist regime," Segura added, using the hashtag #FreeMaykel.
