Harry and Meghan may be returning to Britain, but six years of bitterness, accusations and family hurt cannot simply be left behind at the airport. Their departure from royal life caused deep wounds. Harry’s attacks on William, Kate, Charles and Camilla were intensely personal, and relations with his brother in particular have been left in ruins. That is why this homecoming matters. There will be no return to royal duties and no half-in, half-out deal. That has already been decided. What remains unresolved is the family. William has every reason to be wary, and trust will not be restored overnight. The British public, whose affection for the Sussexes has also fallen sharply, may prove equally difficult to win back. But living in Britain again creates an opportunity that distance never could. Harry and Meghan now have the chance to stop the sniping, rebuild bridges and put family before old grievances.
