The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Health, has sealed a maternity facility in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over alleged baby sale and trafficking.
The agency also arrested the owner of the facility, an alleged facilitator of the suspected baby sale and another staff member following intelligence about a suspected child-trafficking network operating from the facility.
The facility, located in the Elelenwo area of Port Harcourt, was allegedly operating from a residential apartment.
NAPTIP said the operation was part of its nationwide crackdown on fraudulent maternity and healthcare facilities allegedly operating as “baby factories” and involved in illegal adoption, child sale and trafficking.
