Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday that the government's bond buyback program could be expanded beyond the $4 billion per operation ceiling announced just a day earlier. "We're going to increase the size of the buyback," Bessent said in a CNBC interview. "I would note that it could be more than the $4 billion per issue."

Bessent declined to name a specific figure, saying the scale of future operations would depend on market conditions. "We'll see what the conditions are, and you know we will analyze them," he said. "All we're trying to do is get people to focus on the fundamentals and not trade the headlines during a quiet period in a thin market."
