Yemen’s Houthi rebels said they carried out drone strikes on Najran Airport and an Aramco facility in Saudi Arabia’s Najran region on August 20, marking the latest in a string of escalating attacks that have ratcheted up tensions across the Arabian Peninsula.
Military spokesman Yahya Saree announced the strikes via Telegram, though Saudi officials have not confirmed the incidents or acknowledged any damage. Independent verification of the attacks’ effectiveness remains absent.
An escalation with weeks of buildup
The Houthi movement, formally known as Ansar Allah, declared a naval blockade against Saudi shipping on July 20, opening a new front in the conflict.
In the weeks since that blockade declaration, the group has targeted multiple Saudi-linked tankers and launched strikes on Saudi oil infrastructure in the Jizan and Yanbu regions. Prior Houthi attacks on Najran province reportedly resulted in 11 injuries.
