Romania's President Nicușor Dan had condemned what he dubbed the intensification of “irresponsible incidents” by Russia
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday talked up the need for the EU to build “capacity to deter provocation and aggression” after Romania destroyed an explosive-laden naval drone near a gas platform in the Black Sea.
“An escalating campaign of threats is underway, unsettling our citizens and seeking to divide our Union,” von der Leyen said on X. “This is hybrid warfare.”
Romanian Defence Minister Radu Miruță said the drone was spotted several hundred metres from the Neptun Deep platform, located in the country’s exclusive economic zone around 80 nautical miles east of the coastal city of Constanța.
