ASABA — The Ndoshimili Development Union (NDU), the apex socio-cultural body of Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, has raised the alarm over aggressive shoreline erosion threatening communities in the area.
The union warned that Abala-Oshimili and Onyah, which it identified as the worst-hit communities, could be wiped out within a few years if urgent measures are not taken to control erosion and protect their shorelines.
The NDU made the position known in a communiqué issued at the end of its maiden virtual consultative town hall meeting and signed by its President-General, Engr. Ike Onyenokwe, and Secretary-General, Dr. Oke Michael Aziakpono.
The union also lamented the high level of infrastructure deficit in the local government area despite its significant contribution to oil and gas production in the Niger Delta.
