…as PENGASSAN tasks industry operators
Industry regulator Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has vowed to strengthen regulatory certainty, market transparency and operational efficiency to promote stability and attract new investments into Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Abdullahi Umar, the authority chief executive, said effective regulation was critical to giving investors confidence to commit capital to refineries, gas processing plants, pipelines, depots, storage terminals and other petroleum infrastructure requiring substantial long-term investment.
This is as Festus Osifo, president of PENGASSAN, has urged industry operators to prioritise staff upskilling and welfare to tackle the japa syndrome.
Speaking at the PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit (PEALS) 2026 in Abuja, Thursday, Umar, represented by Sadiq Bashir, an executive director at NMDPRA, said the authority’s regulatory philosophy was anchored on being “Firm in Regulation, Fair in Conduct and Fast in Execution.”
