As CNN Underscored’s resident bidet expert, I’ve tested a lot of silly bathroom products. When The UnWipe came across my desk, I was completely perplexed. But after researching and testing this $29 gadget myself, I can honestly say it’s a bathroom game changer. It makes wiping more comfortable and effective, and if you’re not willing to use a bidet, you should have The UnWipe in your bathroom.
The UnWipe
This simple gadget moistens your toilet paper and adds texture, creating a more effective, more comfortable clean. It’s easy to use, much cheaper than a bidet and one of the simplest upgrades you can make to improve your bathroom experience.
The UnWipe’s mission is to be the sworn enemy of “flushable” wipes. These wipes have been gaining popularity lately, but unfortunately, they just aren’t good for septic systems. No matter what the label says, it’s a bad idea to flush wipes; even if they can disintegrate, that process often takes too long. When wipes sit in the sewage for weeks, they can mix with grease and create truly disgusting clogs called fatbergs (don’t click the link if you’re queasy).
Instead of wipes, The UnWipe uses the toilet paper you already use that’s safe for sewage systems, and makes it feel like a wipe. The gadget is a simple silicone container with a cellulose sponge on the inside. To use it, you take your toilet paper and squish it into The UnWipe. The sponge slightly dampens the paper, and a silicone layer also imprints a design on it to add texture.
