The Suzuki Swift is one of South Africa's best-selling cars, and with good reason.
In the space of two model generations, the Suzuki Swift has gone from being an interesting alternative in the hatchback market to one of the country’s most popular cars. It is currently outsold only by Volkswagen’s evergreen Polo Vivo.
The latest-generation Suzuki Swift arrived on our shores in late 2024 and has regularly sold more than 1,500 units a month.
The secret to its success, in my view, is that while it has become more refined and substantial over the years, it remains true to its original purpose of providing practical and affordable motoring to the masses. That contrasts with many rivals that have moved further upmarket, with some seeing their sales plummet as a result.
While thoroughly modernised, the latest Swift retains the cheeky visual character of its predecessors. As far as I’m concerned, however, the front end is a little too bulbous. Less bumper and more bonnet would have given it a neater appearance.
