SS Lazio have pulled the plug on their planned signing of Bamba Dieng after the free-agent striker failed to pass medical examinations in Rome. The 26-year-old Senegalese international was reportedly close to agreeing a three-year deal with the Serie A club, but persistent knee concerns proved to be a dealbreaker once again.

For Dieng, this is becoming a painful pattern. A collapsed move to Turkish side Amed SK earlier this summer was also attributed to medical red flags, and now Lazio’s decision leaves him without a club willing to bet on his body.

What went wrong in Rome

Dieng arrived in Rome on August 20 for intensive medical tests, with particular attention paid to his problematic knee. Terms discussed included a signing-on bonus of €0.5M and annual wages of €1.5M across a three-year contract. That commitment evaporated once the medical results came back, and the transfer was called off entirely.
