(Fubon Hyundai Life) Fubon Hyundai Life, the Korean insurance arm of Taiwan's Fubon Life, swung to a net profit of 158.6 billion won ($113.8 million) in the first half of this year, on the back of improved investment performance and signs of a strengthening profit base, the company said Thursday. The insurer said its earnings were mainly driven by stronger asset management performance, noting that its investment strategies were tailored to changing financial market conditions. The return on invested assets rose to 5.48 percent in the first half from 2.58 percent a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing. The insurer also saw improvement in its core insurance business, with contractual service margin, or CSM, standing at 178.8 billion won in the first half. CSM additions from new business reached 70.3 billion won, up about 37 percent from 51.2 billion won a year earlier, pointing to a stronger future profit base from its insurance operations.Fubon Hyundai Life has been expanding its protection-focused product lineup while diversifying distribution channels as part of a broader business transformation it has pursued over the past three years. The insurer added it plans to continue strengthening its product portfolio and sales channels, while managing investment and market risks in response to changing financial and regulatory conditions."As investment gains can fluctuate with market conditions, we will continue to strengthen our protection-focused product competitiveness and diversify sales channels to build a more stable earnings structure over the long term," a Fubon Hyundai Life official said.
