TACLOBAN CITY—The mother of one of three students killed in the June 22 mass shooting at San Jose National High School (SJNHS) here has renewed her call for stronger measures to prevent minors from gaining access to firearms after a similar attack at a school in Zamboanga City left two students dead on Tuesday.
Erbea Fabian, mother of Chris Lorenz who was killed in the Tacloban shooting, said the Aug. 18 incident at the junior high school campus of Ateneo de Zamboanga University brought back painful memories of losing her son.
The Zamboanga shooting involved a Grade 9 student who shot and killed a Grade 10 student before taking his own life. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, including how the shooter gained access to firearms.
“When I learned about the incident, it brought back a rush of memories of what happened to my son and the two others. It really saddened me that the same incident happened again, involving students and minors,” Fabian told the Inquirer on Wednesday.
