Multicoin Capital deposited roughly 308,884 HYPE tokens, worth over $19.8 million, into Coinbase Prime across a seven-hour window. That follows a broader pattern of large-scale transfers stretching back weeks, and the market is doing exactly what you’d expect: asking whether one of HYPE’s biggest holders is quietly walking out the door.

Context matters here. Multicoin accumulated more than $100 million in HYPE since February 2026, making it one of the firm’s largest liquid fund positions. Moving that much of any asset to an institutional exchange brokerage is, at minimum, preparation for optionality.

A pattern of large deposits

Around July 21-22, Multicoin transferred approximately 395,570 HYPE, valued near $23.8 million, into Coinbase Prime. A follow-up tranche of roughly 86,000 HYPE, worth about $4.78 million, arrived shortly after. Then came the mid-to-late August deposits in the 136,000-to-173,000 HYPE range, tallying around $10 million per batch.

HYPE’s price has reflected the unease. The token has traded between roughly $55 and $70 recently, and during July 2026, comparable large deposits correlated with declines of around 8% in HYPE’s price. Bitwise made similar moves and saw analogous short-term drawdowns follow.
