MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will construct a water detention basin at a park in front of Malate Church in Manila, with the project expected to be completed within four to six months, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said Wednesday.
According to Dizon, the flood control structure will be built at Plaza Rajah Sulayman. He noted that construction will begin in September once the heavy rains in the area subside.
“We coordinated with the City of Manila. We will build a detention basin with a capacity of roughly 3 million liters so that, before the water is discharged into Manila Bay, it will first be stored underground,” Dizon said in an ambush interview after inspecting Remedios Pumping Station along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
