While Reactor 1 at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant was commissioned on October 22, 2013, Reactor 2 began commercial power generation in October 15, 2016.

The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP), which operates two 1,000 MW VVER reactors, with four more reactors of similar capacity under construction with assistance from Russia, has so far generated 1,30,627 million units of power since its commissioning.

Addressing the Independence Day celebrations held at Anu Vijay Township on Saturday, KKNPP Site Director Ashok Bhatia said the current operational capacity factor of KKNPP Reactors 1 and 2 exceeded 101.5%.

Reactor 2 recently established a new station record for continuous operation, surpassing the previous record of 638 days held by Reactor 1. While Reactor 1 was commissioned on October 22, 2013, Reactor 2 began commercial power generation in October 15, 2016.
