Warren Buffett just made a $17 billion bet that Google’s parent company is undervalued. Berkshire Hathaway increased its Alphabet stake by 83% during the second quarter of 2026, bringing its total position to roughly 106 million shares worth somewhere between $36.6B and $37.9B.
That makes Alphabet the third-largest equity holding in Berkshire’s portfolio, sitting behind only Apple and American Express in a total equity book valued at nearly $299B.
The private placement play
What makes this move particularly interesting is how Berkshire acquired the shares. About $10B worth, roughly 60% of the new position, came through a private placement tied to Alphabet’s capital-raising initiative announced in early June 2026.
The remaining shares, approximately $7B worth, were scooped up on the open market during the same quarter.
