The police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old youth to death following a quarrel near Sanaputhur village in Gummidipoondi on Thursday night.The deceased was identified as Ranjan, 18, of Sanaputhur. The police said Ranjan was consuming liquor near an agricultural field belonging to Thulukkanam around 9 p.m. on Thursday when he got into an argument with an accquaintance Kamesh, 21, of the same locality.The quarrel reportedly began after Ranjan uttered abusive words about Kamesh’s wife, Janani. Angered by this, Kamesh allegedly attacked Ranjan with a knife and fled the scene after leaving him critically injured.The following morning, a watchman at a nearby mango grove found Ranjan lying dead and informed his father, Raja. The Padhirivedu police sent the body to Ponneri Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A murder case was registered, and Kamesh was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
