Balyasny Asset Management, the Chicago-based multi-strategy hedge fund managing roughly $77 billion in assets, has disclosed ownership of 3.4 million shares in SpaceX. The filing lands just weeks after SpaceX completed one of the largest IPOs in history, and it paints a clear picture of where big money is placing its bets in the post-IPO aerospace market.
At SpaceX’s IPO price of $135 per share, a 3.4 million share position would represent a stake worth roughly $459 million. That’s a meaningful allocation even for a fund of Balyasny’s size, amounting to around 0.6% of its total assets under management.
SpaceX’s wild public debut
SpaceX, trading under the ticker SPCX, went public on the Nasdaq on June 12, 2026, at $135 per share. The stock surged nearly 20% out of the gate, eventually peaking around $226 before settling into a more volatile trading pattern.
Balyasny’s disclosure doesn’t specify when the fund acquired its shares, whether at the IPO price or in the secondary market afterward. It also doesn’t reveal the cost basis, which means we can’t know exactly how much the fund paid or how much, if anything, it’s up on the trade.
