Residents of One Town staging a protest with empty vessels to highlight the acute drinking water crisis and irregular water supply, organised by YSRCP leaders at Jagadamba Junction in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

Members from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led by former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar and residents of One Town staged a protest over the ongoing drinking water supply crisis in the city. As part of the protest, many women staged a demonstration carrying empty vessels, raising slogans against the NDA government highlighting the difficulties faced by residents due to the shortage of drinking water.Speaking during the protest, Mr. Kumar alleged that the government had failed to ensure adequate and regular water supply to residents. He stated that the government had failed to make adequate arrangements to meet the city’s growing water requirements. He claimed that the water shortage had already affected several establishments, including hospitals and prominent hotels, and alleged that residents in many parts of the city were receiving water only once every two days. In some areas, people were reportedly receiving muddy and contaminated water, he said.He alleged that the government was spending large amounts on publicity-oriented programmes and events while failing to allocate sufficient funds for basic urban infrastructure. If such funds were instead invested in strengthening Visakhapatnam’s water and other civic infrastructure, the city could see significant improvement, he said. He also questioned how could the government manage to supply water to upcoming Data Centre, when it failed to provide the city’s requirement.“Water levels in several reservoirs had really dipped. Ground water levels are also down. If such a situation had emerged even before the proposed data centre became fully operational, the city’s water security could face a much more serious crisis in the future, he warned.
