Influencer and self-described misogynist Andrew Tate, who is currently being held at a Florida prison, has claimed that he is being forced to drink dirty water and that he is being kept awake at night by screaming inmates. Tate, 39, who has built a large online following promoting his views on masculinity, and his brother Tristan, 38, were arrested in Miami last month on an extradition request from Britain, which has charged them with rape.The brothers, who have dual U.S. and British citizenship, have denied wrongdoing. Their lawyers have said they are being held in harsh solitary confinement conditions at the jail, known as Federal Detention Centre Miami. And now, Andrew has said in posts on X during his incarceration that he had been suffering from stomach problems due to drinking warm water from a 'brown and filthy' shower faucet.He has also claimed that he has been awoken in the middle of the night by prisoners yelling death threats, and described hearing a 'demonic roar' from a neighbouring cell. 'I was unable to sleep, and it was too dark to read, so I counted the bricks on the wall,' he wrote in a social media post. According to the Tate brothers' lawyers, their beds are shorter than they are tall and have no pillows. Prosecutors said the ​Tates were allowed out of their cells for hours on an 'almost daily' basis for recreation time and meetings with their lawyers. The facility has denied the Tates' requests ​that they be housed elsewhere, their lawyers said.Prosecutors ⁠said the brothers have adequate sleeping arrangements, food and access to water, and the ability to ask for extra supplies.It comes as a federal judge in Miami postponed a hearing over whether social media influencers should remain in custody as they fight extradition to the UK. U.S. Magistrate Lauren Louis had been scheduled to hear arguments from both sides on Thursday before determining if the brothers should stay in jail or be released during what could be a monthslong extradition process.Louis granted a defence request to move the hearing to August 27. Lawyers for the Tates said they needed more time to respond to prosecutors' arguments.The Tates' attorneys have argued the Tates' high profile makes it nearly impossible for them to flee and that they regularly post updates about their locations on social media.The Tates have become some of the world's most polarising internet personalities with their promotion of wealth, male dominance and misogyny through their social media empire. The new allegations are the latest in the Tates' long-running international legal saga spanning the U.S., Britain and Romania.According to the U.S. Attorney's Office filing, the Tates should be detained pending their extradition hearing because they cannot overcome the strong presumption against bail in international extradition cases.The serious pending UK charges involving human trafficking and violent rapes and assaults against multiple victims, along with allegations in Romania that the Tates attempted to intimidate witnesses, present a clear public safety concern, prosecutors say.While prosecutors call the brothers a flight risk, their attorneys said they have proved they are not by complying with all pretrial restrictions in Romania, where they are accused of luring women for sexual exploitation.The UK has until mid-September to provide evidence to the State Department to support extradition, meaning the brothers could spend months in the Federal Detention Centre in Miami before the proceedings are resolved, the defence motion says. No date has been set for an extradition hearing.
