In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old man was allegedly murdered after he objected to a 21-year-old man stalking his teenage daughter at Watrap in Virudhunagar district on Friday.
The police said Ayyanar of Kottayur East Colony lived with his family. His 17-year-old daughter had complained about a 21-year-old man, Periyasamy, stalking her. As it was annoying and disturbing, Ayyanar had objected and shouted at Periyasamy, the prime accused.
On Friday, when Ayyanar was walking along the street, Periyasamy, his brother Alaguraja, his wife Pechiammal and a few others allegedly picked up a wordy altercation with him. During the altercation, Periyasamy allegedly attacked Ayyanar with a knife on his back. Ayyanar, who sustained serious injuries, collapsed.
On information, his daughter and son rushed to the spot. The Watrap police arrived and sent the body to the Government Hospital for post-mortem.
The police registered a case of murder and arrested the three suspects. The weapon was also seized. A hunt was on to nab a few more accused in the case. Published - August 14, 2026 09:56 pm IST
