The 80th Independence Day will be celebrated at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground in the heart of the city on Saturday, with 1,360 members of 37 police force contingents taking part in the ceremonial parade.Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will hoist the flag at 9 a.m., receive the salute, and later address the gathering. The event will witness a performance by 800 children, titled ‘Vande Mataram Shanti Mantra Nrithya Roopaka’, according to a press release by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).As many as 600 students from various colleges will perform on “Bharat Jodo Yuva Sangha Yojane”. “The Akka Pade”, consisting of 70 women constables from Bidar and 100 women constables from Bengaluru City Police, will also perform at the event. In addition, 750 students from Samyukta Pre-University College, Pillanna Garden, will stage a performance on the glory of the freedom struggle.M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the GBA, said that this time, Vande Mataram would also be played before the National Anthem.The 37 contingents taking part in the parade include the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the City Armed Reserve (CAR), the Goa Police, the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), traffic wardens, women police personnel, Home Guards, the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services (KSFES), the canine squad, and a band squad.About 3,000 passes will be issued for the public to view the ceremony, of which 576 e-passes have already been issued.Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that elaborate arrangements have been made, with 1,100 police personnel from all divisions deployed for bandobast. The deployment includes nine Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 17 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 49 inspectors, 106 sub-inspectors, 14 MPSIs, 49 ASIs, 594 head constables and police constables, 80 women police personnel, 153 plain-clothes personnel, and 29 camera personnel.For traffic management, three DCPs, six ACPs, 19 inspectors, 32 sub-inspectors, 111 ASIs, and 430 head constables and police constables have been deployed. The security arrangements at the parade ground include 110 CCTV cameras inside and outside the premises, along with seven KSRP/CAR platoons, four fire tenders, three ambulances, four reserve vehicles, a Quick Reaction Team (QRT), and a D-SWAT unit. One Garuda Force unit has also been kept in reserve.Another 100 CCTV cameras, four baggage scanners, 20 Door Frame Metal Detectors, and 40 Hand-Held Metal Detectors have been installed to monitor activities around the parade ground and screen visitors.
