Inmates Steven Sansom and Adam Watson have been charged with the attempted murder of Urfan Sharif, who was jailed for killing his 10-year-old daughter Sara Sharif13:53, 14 Aug 2026Updated 14:23, 14 Aug 2026Two inmates have been charged with the attempted murder of Sara Sharif's dad in prison.The Crown Prosecution Service today confirmed Steven Sansom and Adam Watson have been charged after an incident in Belmarsh Prison.It is understood Urfan Sharif, who was jailed for the murder of his 10-year-old daughter Sara, was attacked on January 1 2025.Samson, 47 and Watson, 39, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court for a first hearing on August 26 2026.Sharif, 43, and Sara's stepmother Beinash Batool were sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted at the Old Bailey of killing Sara at their home in Woking, Surrey, in August 2023.The youngster had suffered years of horrific "torture" and "despicable" abuse before her body was discovered in a bunk bed at the family home a day after Sharif and Batool fled to Pakistan.The court heard that the 10-year-old suffered "unimaginable pain, misery and anxiety" as she was repeatedly beaten, burned, bitten and restrained.Sharif was handed a minimum term of 40 years and Batool was given 33 years following a trial in late 2024.Sara's uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment for causing or allowing her death.An international manhunt was launched for the trio after they fled to Islamabad along with Sara's five siblings.They hid out there for four weeks before flying back to the UK, where they were met by police officers and arrested.In January last year, the Metropolitan Police said officers were probing "an allegation that a prisoner was assaulted at Belmarsh", adding that "the 43-year-old suffered non life-threatening injuries".Confirming the charges today, Daren Streeter, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in CPS London, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to charge Steven Sansom and Adam Watson with attempted murder in connection to an incident at HMP Belmarsh in January 2025."Our prosecutors have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and pursue criminal proceedings.Article continues below"We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendants are active and they have the right to a fair trial."It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information which could in anyway prejudice these proceedings."
