Urfan Sharif and Beinash Batool are living very different lives in prison after murdering 10-year-old Sara. Here we look at their warped lives now11:57, 30 Aug 2026Sara Sharif spent her final moments trapped in terror, beaten and punished by the very people tasked with keeping her safe.The 10-year-old schoolgirl, who loved dancing and fairtytales, suffered a horrific campaign of abuse and suffering at the hands of her evil father Urfan Sharif and stepmother Beinash Batool. Eventually, the violence became too much for her little body to bear.On 10 August 2023, police found little Sara, dead and alone, in her family home beneath the blanket of her bunk bed. She sustained an "awful constellation of injuries" and had been tied up and restrained, "perhaps for lengthy periods".Her cowardly killers, Sharif, 44, Batool, 33, had fled to Islamabad, Pakistan, alongside her Batool's brother, Faisal Malik, 29, who also played a hand in causing or allowing her death.After a gruelling trial, where missed chances to save little Sara became abundantly clear, justice was served. Sharif is currently serving life with a minimum term of 40 years for the murder, while Batool is serving life with a minimum of 33 years. Malik was sentenced to 16 years.The warped former couple are living very different lives behind bars. From cosying up with one of Britain's worst child killers to an alleged decapitation attempt, we look at Sara's evil killers lives now...'Horror attack'Within the strict prison hierarchy, child abuse and murder carry severe hostility from fellow inmates, placing Sara's father Urfan Sharif at the very bottom of the social order.The killer is currently serving time in HMP Belmarsh. This week, it emerged that he was attacked by two prisoners who allegedly tried to decapitate him with the jagged edge of a tin can lid.Steven Sansom, 47, and Adam Watson, 39, are accused of ambushing Sharif inside a cell on New Year's Day last year, before allegedly slashing him to his neck while attempting "to slice his head off".Westminster Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday how they lured Sharif to a cell under "the pretext of friendship" before allegedly attempting to kill him. Prosecutor Jack Wadsworth told the court Sansom made admissions immediately after the alleged indicent, including telling prison guards: "I pulled him in here and then I tried to kill him." Asked why, Sansom allegedly said: "Because he killed his daughter... I wanted to cut his head off."In the reported "planned and co-ordinated" attack, the court heard how Watson took hold of Sharif and punched him repeatedly. Sansom then allegedly attacked Sharif from behind and mounted him on the floor and applied sustained pressure to his throat. Watson positioned himself at the cell door and stood against it to prevent entry, the court heard."Sharif states Watson passed an unidentified weapon to Sansom, understood to be a tin lid. Sansom made repeated cutting motions towards Sharif's throat. Sansom also tried to stuff an item into Sharif's mouth," Wadsworth detailed. He added: "The intention of Watson and Sansom was to kill Urfan Sharif and this was only prevented by the prison officers intervening and Urfan Sharif's resistance."The court heard Sharif suffered injuries to his neck, forearm and left middle finger before being found bloodied and distressed on the floor, with Sansom over him." Sansom is already serving a whole-life term for murder.He killed Sarah Mayhew, 38, in 2024 and disposed of her remains in locations around London while he was out on licence after murdering a taxi driver in 1998. Watson is also in jail serving 21 years in 2024 for murdering mum-of-two Samantha Holden, 56, at her home in Farnborough, Hampshire.The pair, who both appeared via videolink, were remanded in custody and told they will appear at the Old Bailey for a plea hearing on September 23. Sansom is facing three separate charges, including attempted murder, unauthorised possession in prison of a knife or offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm with intent. Watson also faces a charge of attempted murder. Sharif has since been moved to HMP Frankland in Durham after the attack.Killer pal and cushty benefitsBatool, Sara's vile stepmother, remains in HMP Bronzefield, a high-security female prison located in Ashford, Surrey. The 32-year-old is said to have become friends with fellow killer Lucy Letby while inside. The pair have reportedly bonded over their shared love of games, first the card game Uno and more recently chess.Former neonatal nurse Letby is serving 15 whole-life prison orders after being convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder eight others at the Countess of Chester Hospital. A whole-life order means she will spend the rest of her life in prison and will never be eligible for parole.‌Letby and Batool are reportedly 'inseparable' and go everywhere together. A former lag, who spent time in the women's prison, calls Letby "Queen Bee" and says Batool even gives the killer nurse full make-overs to boost her spirits."They became best friends because nobody would speak to them, so they formed an alliance. They have got each other's backs and go everywhere together. They are cocky because they know they will never be moved from Unit 4 because they can’t be transferred due to security," the ex-con told The Sun.‌They further detailed how the two women enjoy coffees, cakes and meals including avocado toast at the restaurant. They have to earn behaviour points called "positives" to visit the eatery Vita Nova and go once a month in what looks like a "date-night" style dinner.Letby and Batool are also said to pay monthly visits to the hair and beauty salon, with other prisoners cleared from the room to prevent attacks. "It is a really nice restaurant and the staff eat there. You can also have things like Thai green curry, poached eggs on toast and full English breakfasts and there are vegetarian options," the source added.‌But a source has said Batool has not embraced her 'cushy' job in the prison and said: "She's doing f****** photocopies, she collates papers for the Muslim prisoners and the Christian prisoners, and puts them in envelopes, that's all she does. And now she's whinging because 'Oh, I've never worked in my life, I've always had a man support me' and 'I just hate this job'."Letby and Batool are understood to be held on House Block Four, where each cell has its own ensuite shower. Inmates on the block mainly consist of women serving life sentences for crimes such as paedophilia and child murder.Another prison source told the Mail: "Despite their crimes, Letby and Batool are model prisoners and senior officers like them playing chess. It helps with anger management and keeps them occupied. There's a very competitive chess club. They've even been teaching other cons."‌Inside Sara's killer's warped relationshipThe couple met in 2015 as Sharif was divorcing Sara's mum Olga. His divorce from Olga was finalised in 2017 and Batool supported Sharif through the proceedings.But the relationship turned sour when Sharif would regularly tell Batool that he was divorcing her and on 25 November 2022 he travelled to Pakistan without Sara, telling Batool he was not coming back, but he returned later.Article continues belowHer barrister suggested Sharif began to abuse her in the first year of their relationship and from 2021 to 2023 Batool regularly messaged two of her sisters saying Sharif was "beating the crap" out of Sara.She said Sharif would get angry with her too and would smash up the furniture. On 10 February 2022 Batool contacted a solicitor seeking advice about divorce.
