Total retail and food services sales came in at $763.6 billion, down from $768.1 billion in June but up 5% from a year earlier

U.S. retail and food services sales fell 0.6% in July from the prior month, pulling back after a modest gain in June, the U.S. Census Bureau reported on Friday.
Total seasonally adjusted sales came in at $763.6 billion in July, down from a revised $768.1 billion in June. Sales were up 5.0% compared with July 2025, and the May-through-July period ran 6.3% above the same stretch a year ago, according to the Census Bureau.
