Defence Minister Angie Motshekga officially opened the R625 million Military Base Hospital Gqeberha, a 30-bed facility serving about 9,000 military beneficiaries across the Eastern Cape.

Defence Minister Angie Motshekga has opened a new military hospital in Gqeberha, saying the facility will bring healthcare closer to soldiers, their families and military veterans in the Eastern Cape.

The R625 million Military Base Hospital Gqeberha has 30 beds and will serve about 9,000 beneficiaries in Gqeberha, Makhanda, Mthatha and surrounding areas.

The hospital, officially opened in Forest Hill on Thursday, provides 24-hour healthcare services, including primary healthcare, emergency care, surgery, diagnostic services, dental care, pharmacy, paediatric care and rehabilitation.

Motshekga said the facility was an important step towards making the Defence Department’s “Soldier First” principle a reality.
