Kenya’s dance scene is getting a fresh burst of energy as young dancers from across the country battle for a chance to take part in the inaugural Vaibu ni Mautam dance competition.
The competition kicked off with three days of auditions that attracted tens of dancers, all hoping to impress the judges and secure a place in the much-anticipated finale at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on August 23.
For many of the contestants, the auditions offered more than a shot at prize money. They provided an opportunity to have their talent seen, connect with other creatives and be part of a growing dance culture that has found a powerful home on social media.
