Lithuania and Ukrainian defence company Dnipro Electromechanical Plant, or DEMZ, signed a major investment agreement Friday under which the company will establish ammunition production facilities in Lithuania and create up to 450 jobs.
Lithuanian Economy Minister Edvinas Grikšas and DEMZ chief Jevhen Muzykin signed the agreement in Vilnius. The total value of the investment was not disclosed.
DEMZ plans to build an ammunition assembly plant near Balbieriškis in the Prienai district and manufacture metal shell components at the Alytus Industrial Park.
Construction is scheduled to begin this autumn, with production expected to start by the end of 2027.
Alytus Mayor Nerijus Cesiulis said after the signing ceremony that DEMZ would invest tens of millions of euros in the city, although he did not provide a precise figure. He previously described the project as the largest investment to date in the Alytus region.
