An 83-year-old man in Plovdiv has been taken to a police station after footage appeared on social media showing him aiming a homemade crossbow at an 18-year-old man who was walking his dog. No one was injured in the incident, which happened in the Karshiyaka neighborhood near Dobrotich Street and Pobeda Boulevard.
The video was published on August 11 at around 4 p.m., prompting police to act immediately. Within about an hour, officers had prepared a report and begun an investigation. The elderly man was identified and taken to the Third District Police Department, where he voluntarily handed over the crossbow. Police also identified the young man seen in the footage.
Chief Inspector Petar Iskrov, head of the Criminal Police sector in Plovdiv, said the weapon was homemade and is not prohibited under current law. “The clip was published on August 11 at around 4 p.m. We immediately took action. In about an hour, an employee of the district police department prepared a report. Then an inspection began,” Iskrov told local media.
Police established that the two men had previously been involved in a dispute over a garden between apartment buildings that the 83-year-old had been maintaining. According to investigators, the younger man's dog had previously trampled the garden or relieved itself there, leading to an argument and an exchange of insults.
