New information has been revealed about the most eagerly awaited wedding of the year. The "Jornal de Notícias" (source in Portuguese) obtained the marriage record between Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez, reporting that the civil ceremony took place at the couple's residence in Cascais on Tuesday 11 August at 1.30 p.m.
Also present at the venue were four witnesses, as well as the family's five children, as had initially been disclosed by the agency representing the player. In particular, Miguel Paixão, a friend of the footballer since his youth days at Sporting,Ivana Rodríguez, Georgina's sister, and José Rodríguez Sangil and Mónica González Martínez, a Spanish jeweller and his wife.
The marriage was formalised by Maria Manuel Folhadela de Oliveira, a civil registrar who travelled from the city of Porto to conduct the ceremony.
The document also reveals that the Portuguese footballer and his wife opted for the separation of assets regime (source in Portuguese). Under this regime, spouses keep all their assets separate, both those they brought into the marriage and those acquired afterwards, which helps protect their property from third parties.
The separation of assets regime is not the default arrangement for marriages in Portugal; it is necessary to enter into a prenuptial agreement to confirm the consent of both parties to this regime. In this case, Cristiano and Georgina's prenuptial convention was signed the day before the ceremony at a notary's office in Lisbon.
