Image: Jussi Lindroos / YleYle News10:25The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) has lifted a temporary restriction on aviation and maritime traffic in the eastern Gulf of Finland.The restriction was put in place at about 4am on Friday morning, and it was lifted just after 8am."This is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of civilians and the operational capabilities of authorities to counter potential drones," the FDF wrote on social media platform X.Authorities in Latvia also closed airspace in the eastern part of the country, near the border with Russia and Belarus, in the early hours of Friday.News agency Reuters later reported that Nato fighter jets shot down a drone ​that had entered Latvian airspace.Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks on Russia's St. Petersburg region overnight, leading to a fire at the Ust-Luga oil port on the Baltic Sea. The region's governor, Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed the attacks on the Telegram messaging platform, writing that Russia had repelled over 50 Ukrainian drones in the area around St. Petersburg in the early hours of Friday.Finland has closed parts of its airspace on a number of occasions over the past few months due to heightened concerns about drones from the war straying into Finnish territory, including most recently at the beginning of this month.In the most significant incident to date, people in the Uusimaa area were advised to move indoors and stay there in the early hours of 15 May.
