Workers across various trade unions in Lagos State on Wednesday unveiled a political support group, Working People United, for President Bola Tinubu and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The workers, who gathered in their hundreds at the Blue Roof, Lagos Television, Ikeja, said the group would support Tinubu’s re-election bid and Hamzat’s bid to govern the state in 2027.
Those at the unveiling included members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, National Union of Nigerian Welders, Farmers Association of Nigeria, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, among other registered trade unions.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of WoPU and immediate past President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Williams Akporeha, said the gathering was not a campaign rally but part of efforts to establish the group’s structure across the country.
He said, “The event is a political support group for Mr President, Bola Tinubu. The major purpose of this group is to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other progressive-minded candidates whose policies we believe will mean well for this country.
