NRBC Bank PLC has launched a QR code-based service to facilitate the instant verification of customers’ bank statements.Under the new service, a QR code embedded in a bank statement can be scanned to instantly view and verify the statement details on a mobile device. Md Ali Hossain Prodhania, chairman of the bank, inaugurated the service as the chief guest at a hotel in Dhaka recently, according to a press release.Speaking at the event, Ali Hossain said, “There is no alternative to the effective use of digital technology in ensuring transparency and accountability. The introduction of QR-based statement verification will enable the concerned authorities to verify the authenticity of bank statements instantly and conveniently.”“This will also reduce waiting time and make the service process more efficient for customers,” he added.Bank statements are often required for visa applications at foreign embassies, bank loan applications, and access to various government and private-sector services.The new digital service has been introduced to enable the concerned authorities to quickly and conveniently verify the authenticity of submitted bank statements, making the verification process faster, easier, more transparent and secure.“Bank statements are essential documents for obtaining services from foreign embassies as well as various government and private-sector organisations,” Md Touhidul Alam Khan, managing director and chief executive officer of the bank, said while presiding over the event.However, he said that in some cases, fraudulent or manipulated statements are submitted through the misuse of technology. Such practices can adversely affect the reputation of both the concerned bank and the country.Among others, Md Nurul Haque, chairman of the risk management committee; Muhammad Emdad Ullah, chairman of the audit committee; Md Abul Bashar, Md Anwar Hossain and Md Shafiqur Rahman, independent directors; Mohammad Abdul Qaium Khan, deputy managing director and chief operating officer; Md Shaheen Howlader, deputy managing director and chief business officer; and Md Razidul Islam, head of ICT operations division, were also present at the event.
