It was the second time this season a hip ailment sidelined him. It’s good timing for a Twins team that went 6-8 without Buxton but still harbors postseason hopes in a weak American League Central. While Buxton is not the portrait of durability, he’s been consistent whenever he is on the field, even into his 30s. From 2024 to 2025, Buxton posted a 138 OPS+ — 38 percent better than league average. This season, he’s posted a … 138 OPS+.So the Twins missed him, even if Minnesota somewhat withstood Buxton’s absence; their center fielders produced a .778 OPS in the last two weeks. That ranked 16th in the majors during that time. Luke Keaschall, an infielder by trade, took most of the center-field time. This isn’t Buxton’s first time playing baseball in Iowa; he starred for the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League as a Twins farmhand in 2013.The Twins do not have to make an immediate corresponding roster move to add Buxton. The Twins and the Philadelphia Phillies are permitted a 27th man for the Field of Dreams game. (It must be a position player.) And, for being on the active roster, Buxton scores a $20,000 bonus. Every player on the two teams’ active rosters for Thursday’s game receives that payment, as collectively bargained by the players’ union and the league. The only complication: The weather forecast for Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa, is not ideal. Rain is expected throughout the day and night.
