Victor Mokoena was convicted of four counts of rape, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances.

A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to four terms of life imprisonment for rape after using social media to lure young women with fake modelling, promotional and photoshoot opportunities.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Victor Mokoena was convicted of four counts of rape, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and pointing of an object resembling a firearm.

The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg sentenced Mokoena to life imprisonment on each of the four rape counts. He was further sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, two years for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one year for pointing an object resembling a firearm.

The court ordered that the sentences imposed on the remaining offences run concurrently with the life sentences.
