Inter-State transport operated with least disruption in Krishnagiri

Inter-State transport between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in Hosur was only slightly impacted, albeit briefly, by the bandh in Karnataka in support of the Mekedatu project on Thursday (August 13, 2026).Kannada outfits had called for a day-long bandh in protest against the Supreme Court order to release water to Tamil Nadu, and also in support of the contentious dam in Mekedatu.While the State Transport Corporation buses continued to ply across the borders throughout the day, the inter-State bus transport was briefly halted for over an hour, when cadre of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedika, pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj arrived at the border and raised slogans in support of the proposed Mekedatu dam.Tension prevailed briefly, when commuters were dropped off at the respective borders by buses and compelled to walk a few meters to reach the other side of the borders.While members of the Kannada outfit courted arrests by the Karnataka police, the Hosur police had set up pickets fortifying the Tamil Nadu border.
