The Astalakshmi temple in Srikakulam gears up for Sravanam celebrations.

On the the first day of Sravanam month, Mahalakshmi temples in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts wore a festive look as devotees offered special prayers on Thursday.The month is considered significant for women devotees who visit the temples seeking blessings of the Goddess of the wealth.Priests performed ksheerabhisekham to the Astalakshmi idols and informed that kumkum puja would be held daily on the temple premises. Temple trustee P. Jaganmohana Rao said that the temple constructed a decade ago is the first temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi in Srikakulam.The famous Kammasigadam Mahalakshmi temple of Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district also witnessed a significant rush of devotees.In Vizianagara, the three major temples —Ishwarya Venkateswara Sameta Astalakhsmi temple of Ayyannapeta, the Goddess Mahalakshmi shrine within the Lord Jagannath Swamy temple of Santapeta, and the Sri Kanyakaparameswari temple on GT Road have geared up for Sravanamasa Utsavalu.Sri Kanyakaparameswari was adorned with a golden sari and diamond studded crown for the festivities.Temple trustee Narayanam Srinivas said that at least a 1,000 women devotees were expected to offer special prayers every Friday during the month.
