The Coordination Committee of All Farmers Associations of Tamil Nadu has condemned the State government for not complying with the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s direction to release water to Tamil Nadu and its ‘soft” handling of the bandh call given by some organisations in the upper riparian State against the CWMA direction.Coordination Committee president P.R. Pandian told presspersons at Mannargudi on Thursday said that all most all dams in Karnataka Cauvery Basin were filled to the brim. Yet that State government was not willing to comply with the CWMA’s direction to release 12 tmcft. of water to Tamil Nadu.Instead, Mr. Pandian said, Karnataka government headed by D.K. Shivakumar of the Congress was encouraging a few “ethnic nationalists” to create an impression that the CWMA direction was not received well by the people of Karnataka.Stating that it was the practice of Karnataka government to ‘encourage or enact’ activities such as ‘bandh’ and protests by ‘ethnic nationalist’ groups whenever a direction/order was pronounced in Cauvery water sharing issue to ensure Tamil Nadu realises its rightful legal share in river water. He called upon the Tamil Nadu government to take steps legally to ensure the neighbouring State released Tamil Nadu’s share in Cauvery river water without fail and check the State government from indulging in such tactics to avoid releasing Cauvery water as per the final order pronounced by the Supreme Court.
