The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) should take immediate steps to implement the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) directive to Karnataka to release 4 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu, P.R. Pandian, president of the Coordination Committee of All Farmers Associations of Tamil Nadu, said here on Wednesday.The CWRC, which met in New Delhi on Tuesday to review the situation in drought-hit Cauvery basin, directed Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water a day for 15 days.Speaking to reporters at Azhiyur here, Mr. Pandian said the CWMA should ensure that Karnataka released the water to Tamil Nadu. “If Karnataka refuses to abide by the directive, the CWMA should seek the assistance of the Union government to enforce the order,” Mr.Pandian said.Pointing out that the Congress and the BJP stood united on the plan to build a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu, Mr. Pandian condemned any attempt to cause a division among Tamil Nadu MPs on political lines on the issue.
