The 4-week moving average held steady at 199,000, while continuing claims fell by 22,000 to 1.78 million

U.S. jobless claims rose to 209,000 in the week ending August 8, an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's revised level, the Department of Labor said Thursday.

The prior week's figure was revised up by 1,000, from 199,000 to 200,000. The 4-week moving average came in at 199,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised average.
