Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Unemployment claims dropped by 14,000 last week compared to the week prior for a seasonally adjusted total of 218,000 claims, the Department of Labor announced Thursday.
The week ending Sept. 13 was also revised upward by 1,000 to 232,000 first-time claims. Meanwhile, the four-week moving average of unemployment claims was 237,500, down 2,750 from the previous week, according to the latest report.
Ongoing claims fell 2,000 to 1.926 million for the week ending Sept. 13, the latest date for which data were available. The four-week moving average of continuing claims was 1.93 million, a decrease of 4,500 from the previous week.
Continuing claims are up compared to the same time last year, which was 1.831 million.
