This digital art exhibition in Delhi showcases technology as a new medium for expression

Artificial intelligence may be changing the way we think about creativity, but a new exhibition at Bikaner House shows that technology is not replacing the artist; it is simply giving artists another medium through which to express themselves. For instance, Riyas Komu, who is known for hyperrealistic portraits, has done a digital work showing the time of Mahatma Gandhi’s death — 5.17pm on January 30, 1948.Riyas is one of nine major contemporary artists who have stepped beyond the familiar worlds of paint, stone, and bronze to explore digital fine art in (Re)claiming Rights of Render(ing), presented by NewArtX (NAX).Apart from Riyas, the show features works by Alex Davis, Atul Bhalla, Gigi Scaria, GR Iranna, Sibdas Sengupta, Teja Gavankar, Vibha Galhotra, and Waswo X Waswo. The artists have employed virtual reality, interactive installations, digital sculpture, video art, and projection technologies to present ideas that remain deeply rooted in each artist’s existing practice.
