George Wood/Getty ImagesAug. 13, 2026 Updated 4:55 am EDTJoe Gelhardt is set to complete a permanent transfer from Leeds United to Hull City on Thursday after the clubs agreed a package worth £6.5million ($8.8m; €7.6m).The 24-year-old completed the first part of a medical on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude a second phase today, before finalising the deal.Last season, the forward had the best campaign of his career, scoring 15 goals and assisting a further four in the Championship during a loan spell with Hull. He initially joined the club in January last year for the second half of the 2024-25 season, before again being signed on loan for the entirety of last campaign.Gelhardt, who last appeared for Leeds in October 2024, was deemed surplus to requirements at Elland Road this summer, with his contract due to expire next June.On Wednesday night, after United’s friendly in Dublin with Manchester United, manager Daniel Farke spoke to reporters, including The Athletic, about Gelhardt’s situation. He said: “We have made it clear he’s not in our plans for the new season, but he is, at the moment, our player and also a fantastic character.“He played a really good season on Championship level last season and I’m delighted for him because he’s such a fantastic guy. Let’s see what the next day will bring, but it could be there is a solution for him that is good for all parties.”Gelhardt first arrived at Leeds in August 2020 from Wigan Athletic. He scored freely with the under-21s and eventually made his senior league debut for the club in 2021-22, which proved to be his best campaign in West Yorkshire.He scored two Premier League goals and assisted two more as he played an important role in keeping the club safe from relegation that year. Since then, his minutes with Leeds have waned around loan spells at Sunderland and Hull in the second tier.
