A Chatsworth couple staged the theft of their Ford Ranger while fishing, leading to a fraudulent insurance claim of over R500,000.
But police investigators unravelled Shika Naidoo and her husband Samad’s plan, and the Bayview couple were convicted on charges of theft and fraud in the Durban Magistrate’s Court last week.
Their conviction came 10 years after they falsely reported their vehicle as stolen.
They allegedly colluded with two police officers from Isipingo and a tow truck owner to secure the fictitious claim from Mutual and Federal.
